1.     Make khapse after watching the video tutorial.

2.     Write correct steps from YouTube to make bread.

                    Reflection

On 24^th November, I taught lesson integrating ICT in class 3. It was English and the topic was on making khapse under the Zeds bread. We read the text before two days. I made a plan to teach them how to make khapse instead of bread as it is one of our traditional biscuits which we offer as tshog and enjoy eating in many occasions. We pre collected the things required. I downloaded the video tutorial to teach them how to make the dough ready with all the ingredients and make different patterns of khapse. Then I prepared the PPT presentation for clear steps.

Firstly, I introduced khapse and explained the importance of it. Then I played the video of making khapse. After that I showed them the video on how different patterns of khapse are made. I let them watch the video for 5 times so that they could remember the steps to make different patterns. At last, we have learned the steps to make khapse from PPT too.

Then we took all the things and went near our school kitchen. We referred the note of presentation to follow. I have divided the class into four mini-groups. Distributed all the things and started making khapse. I read the steps once again and all the groups have started their work. I monitored all the groups by explaining and asking questions. Few children volunteered as frying group and tea (sugar tea) making group. We made khapse of 3 kg Maida. Made children in line, served tea and distributed khapse. All ate in group and enjoyed eating khapse.

Back to the computer room, I let them to write the correct process in making any of the cakes or pizza or dough nuts… etc. Children browsed and came out with different methods of making different cakes and different shaped breads. Five children read the steps to make cake, pizza, sandwich and doughnut.

I was very much happy that children have really learned a lots through ICT integration and through place-based learning. I prepared questions on PPT and found that 90 percent of children could answer the questions correctly on making khapse, cakes and bread.

Topic: Flowers

Objective: By the end of the lesson a child will be able to:

•       draw and name 10 flowers after the activities.
•       write at least five sentences of the assigned flower.

                    Reflection

On 12^th November, Friday I taught lesson integrating ICT in class 3. It was English and the topic was on flower under the text “How plants provide foods?”. As the first activity I have done the power point presentation on local flowers. I have repeater the presentation for 3 to 4 times. 

 

The second activity was – Place based learning. I took the class around the school area. Introduced the flowers with short description. Let children draw and colour and write the name of the flowers that they can see in the school. I guided them to write with correct spelling.

 

Next, they were asked to gather the information on flower assigned. They used computers to find the information. They browsed, drew the picture of the flower and wrote about the flowers. I helped children to read new words.

 Children voluntarily read their writing for the class. I checked individual write up of every child and found that 90 percent of them have excellent writing. I let children to rewrite in plain paper then we compiled the paper to produce the book of flowers. Then we displayed the books in the class for future references.

I can say that this is one of my successful teaching lesson. I could see all children enjoying observing the real plants, searching for the information from the net, drawing, colouring and writing to produce the book. They were excited to see many flowers of different places. They could learn the names again and again from the video played. 

Integration of ICT in teaching and learning reflection for the month of October

Topic: Singular and Plural noun.

Objective: By the end of the lesson a child will be able to;

1. change singular noun to plural noun.

 Reflection

On 28^th October I taught lesson integrating ICT in class 3. It was English and the topic was singular and plural noun. The children were aware of the singular and plural noun. But they know only one rule that is; make noun plural by adding -s. In today’s lesson they were taught the 8 rules how noun is changed into plural forms. Children were explored through video tutorial to make them understand the concept. Then I explained them in more detail and with more examples.

The content they learned are we can add -es to the noun that end in ch, sh, o,  s, ss, x, and z. The examples are Ostriches, Dishes, Mangoes, Buses, Princesses, foxes and quizzes.

Some noun ending in -o takes only s. The examples is piano-pianos.

Noun that ends in a consonant -y. Change -y to -i and add -es. The examples are city-cities and country-countries.

Noun that ends in a vowel followed by -y change into plural by adding -s. Example key-keys.

Noun that ends in -f or fe, replace with -ves. The example is leaf-leaves.

Few nouns do not follow the rules. Example chef-chefs.

 Some noun has the same form in singular and plural which is known as irregular noun. The example are sheep-sheep, hair-hair and deer-deer.

A few singular nouns form their plural by changing the inside vowel or vowels. The example are man-men and tooth-teeth.

 

In the first activity I let them watched the video and then I asked them to take note of what they have understood. Then I asked few children to explain what he/she have learned. Then we moved with the video by explaining with more examples. As follow up activity I asked few questions and discussed more on their responses.

Then I have displayed the worksheet on the screen and let children write the answers in pair. Few pairs presented their writing and we discussed thoroughly.

After that I displayed another worksheet and let them do it individually. I went around and checked individual work. I found 60 to 70 children could do very well. I understood that these children learn better from videos then from me. I was happy and satisfied with my lesson because if we explain our self, we would never do all these rules together. But from the video it was done. I could repeat the video for many to make them understand more. In our classroom teaching we may repeat for 3 to 4 times only. I was not tired as ICT has done more work and I am free of chalk dust as I used the screen to display the work sheets. It doesn’t take time to show screen like writing on board.

Therefore, I am realizing more and more advantages with the integration of ICT in better teaching and learning.

                    Reflection

The use of Information and Communication Technology has been mandatory in this 21^st century teaching and learning. ICT has increased so rapidly that we can no longer ignore them especially, the teachers in the school. ICT have really influenced our lives in one way or the other. These days, we see ICT being used to perform several functions that have made our life much easy. It has a significant impact on modern society. When ICT is integrated into lessons, students become more engaged in their work. It provides different opportunities for children to learn through fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different ways. With the implementation of New Normal Curriculum, the integration of ICT has increased in teaching and learning. I use ICT to teach children through video tutorial from the link provided, search and explore for the information from Google, provide works like home work, projects, assessment (short test) through LMS (Learning Management System). I use ICT to provide information and discuss about the children’s work and improvement with parents through various media like WeChat, messenger and telegram. ICT helps teachers, students and parents to come together.

 

It was on 5^th August, 2021, I taught a lesson on “Blending and Segmenting-consonant blends” to the children of grade two, through YouTube video clip link Phonics Kids 4B Unit 2 | Consonant Blends | “l" Blends | bl cl fl gl pl | - YouTube . I found children were very active, attentive and engrossed watching the video clip. Children were made to repeat the sounds and reading. They listed the words by listening to the sounds and words. Children repeated and practiced the blending and segmenting of two consonant. After the lesson, I noticed that many children were able to speak out the sound clearly without much help. I was just monitoring; I found many children were really enjoying the lesson.

As the follow up activity, I asked individual child to read the words in sound one by one and recorded the check list. I found 90 percent of the children could achieve the objectives and few failed. I thought it could be due to the different multiple-intelligent of learning.

After the lesson, I realized that I was not too tired as I used to. Integration of ICT minimized the workload of teacher as we don’t have to shout and repeat, which was done by the computer.

Beside every successful story, there will be unsuccessful too. Likewise, we all know that NNC is ICT integrated syllabus. And it is definite that it will improve the standard of teaching and learning for teachers and students. The present scenario of my school is really pathetic, every teacher has to book the ICT laboratory, junior ICT laboratory and projector hand before due to many sections. Teachers are loaded with lap tops and speaker. Many teachers have to cancel and change the teaching strategy from ICT integration to the olden style because of challenges due to the shortage of computers and sometimes net problem in our school. We have 16 computers shared by senior students (Classes VII to X) and the junior groups (PP to VI) have to share one LCD screen, 55 inches. We hardly get the opportunities. Any way it is somehow supporting our needs. Further for the fully integration of ICT in teaching and learning, I heard that our government is working and let’s hope and pray for the successful achievement of the mission, vision and goals of the Education of Bhutan.

Topic: Some Birds of Bhutan

Objectives: By the end of the lesson a child will be able to:

1. name at least 10 birds of Bhutan.

2. describe birds in 5 to 10 sentences.

3. answer 10 questions in nearpod correctly.

Reflection

The use of Information and Communication Technology has really decreased my burden. To integrate ICT in teaching, I prepared a video on birds of Bhutan using Camtasia studio for activity one. Then for the follow up activity, I prepared on line assessment in nearpod. I spent litter more time in planning this time because on line assessment is new for me. 

To introduced the lesson by asking children the name of  birds that they know. Then let them tell the feature of the bird. They could name few birds with few sentences. 

For activity 1, I played my video and let them learn and repeat. I found children were enjoying the lesson. I could prepare only short video with 11 birds due to less experience in using Camtasia but in future I want to explore more and change my teaching strategy as per the demand of ICT world. Then I browsed about few birds and showed children on screen. We had a through discussion about the birds. I advised children to brows at home to know more about the birds.

Next, we read the text, Some Birds of Bhutan. I let children read in turn wise. We stopped every after few pages and had through discussion. I asked few questions in the middle to check children's understanding. 

As follow up activity, I instructed them to follow the instruction to get in nearpod and carry with their task assigned for 10 marks. The instruction I gave are as follow.

During this activity, I faced problems due to erratic net. I thought my children may face difficulty in joining in which was not at all true. I was surprised to see that they were very fast to follow and carry out the task. I realized that these children were really digital native. Some are even advanced then myself. After completing their task I let them brows and learn more about birds in internet. 

My lesson today was up to my satisfaction. I could fully use junior ICT lab which was set recently after receiving new computers. My children really enjoyed the lesson. They were actively participating throughout the lesson. Now I realized the birth of New Normal Curriculum in this 21st century.
